As I read in Le Monde a few months ago, the grilled cheese or processed cheese sandwich is not very well known in France. The grilled cheese is a kind of Croque-Monsieur containing cheese and butter and cooked in a frying pan that is very popular across the Atlantic.
I made one the other day during a video shot for Entremont so I’ll share it with you. It’s not great cooking but it does the job very well for a lazy day :p
The ingredients for 1 grilled cheese :
- 60 g of EntreMont French Emmental cheese
2 slices of farmhouse bread
20 g of salted butter
Butter two slices of bread on one side. Put a slice of bread in a very hot frying pan with the butter on the side of the pan. Place thin slices of Emmental cheese on this slice of bread. Cover with the second slice of bread with butter on the outside (it does not touch the cheese).
Press the sandwich down often to allow the cheese to melt. After 2 minutes, turn the sandwich over and repeat. When the grilled cheese is golden brown and the Emmental is completely melted, remove from the pan.
Delicious with a lamb’s lettuce salad.
